I started writing this song in June of 2017 and finished writing it in June 2018. The title of this song, Easy, is partly a joke because absolutely nothing about this was easy. I wrote this song coming out of one of the darkest, most confusing, hurtful, and hard (definitely NOT EASY) parts of my life -- parts of which I'm still learning how to deal with. The right decision, in my situation, was inevitably the hardest one.
I realized after staying way longer than any person should've with someone who wasn't kind or honest, someone who was rarely sober that I never learned how to quit. Everyone always teaches about perseverance and getting up after you fall down, and not giving up so easily. I wish someone would've taught me when to step away, to break up, to quit, to give up. Red flags sometimes just look like flags, little bumps in the road you realize later were mountains.
Thank you for letting me tell just a sliver of my story in this song, maybe one day I'll say more about the circumstances that produced this song.
lyrics
there’s no money on the card, no gas in the car
the magic is gone, the magic is gone
we drive all night just to drive the next morn
the magic is gone, the magic is gone
you yell like your father
you are your father’s son
and you drink like your mother
I knew I was fighting a battle that couldn’t be won
but I said “baby, I don’t give up that easy”
we’re always together
but I’m always alone
the magic is gone, the magic is gone
and I can bear your pain but when mine is mine alone?
the magic is gone, the magic is gone
and I’m hurt like you left me
even though I stayed so long
but I’m strong and I’m ready
to finally be on my own
and I said, “baby, I don’t give up that easy"
baby, I wish I'd give up that easy.
